What’s a Tune-Up?

Some people consider a tune-up to be a preventive maintenance service. Others say it’s a planned periodic repair. There’s a bit of truth in both. Regardless of which European make and model you drive, your automobile is a collection of interrelated components and systems. Each must work well on its own, and everything must act in unison correctly for your auto to perform as it should. The tune-up takes care of this calibration. Thus, some tune-up elements are indeed preventive maintenance services, while others are included to correct problems. Specifically, a tune-up includes several basic elements that you’ll find on any mechanic’s checklist. (Additionally, some technicians throw in another service point or two that they deem crucial to your car.) For instance, your mechanic will change the spark plugs because the tips can wear or burn away over time. Filters (engine air and fuel) are replaced. This exchange is in addition to the oil filter change that occurs with every oil change and the passenger cabin filter. The fuel system is also cleaned. Your technician will clean the throttle body and set the ignition timing if applicable.
